Shaping The Cities of Tomorrow is an international project involving a large hub of experts active in diverse domains relevant for our target theme, federated by two organisations, Coherent Streams in Switzerland and Planet India Website in India.
More than half of the world population lives in cities, big or small, a proportion which goes above 70 % in continents like Europe and the Americas. Demography is increasing – we are already more than 7 billions – and rural exodus too. No surprise, then, to see cities expanding nearly everywhere, in particular in developing countries.
In this context, seemingly unstoppable energy consumption, pervasive pollution, allergenic health threats and traffic congestions are companions of most city dwellers, when they do not have daily security problems to cope with in addition. At the same time, cities are foundries of creativity, opportunities and innovative social practices which can change it all for the better.
Shaping The Cities of Tomorrow is more than just an informative source on contemporary urban issues, it aims at providing each one, citizens, inhabitants’ associations, professionals, administrations, policy makers and businesses, with tools, voicing space and expert advice for proposing, experimenting, sharing, evaluating and investing in solutions you believe can help make your city environment more livable, and thereupon develop whatever consistent collective actions it takes.
Most web portals and urban initiatives nowadays tend to suggest that technologies can solve it all or that some cities are really smarter, more creative or greener than others. Shaping The Cities of Tomorrow wants to help you find intelligent solutions, in your own terms, with and for your fellow inhabitants, citizens or urban service users, or for urban infrastructure and service companies, with and for their customers. The objective is to enable you, whoever and wherever you are, to define and engage in legitimate, effective and promising endeavors so as to cope with the above-mentioned problems and bring up key and durable qualities to the city or cities you feel you are part of.
